Another confirmation of the unique qualities of these projects.

The sixth annual EuropaProperty SEE Real Estate Awards Forum and Gala took place in Bucharest on 10 May 2011, where the prizes for the best shopping centre developments were awarded. Sparkassen Immobilien AG (S IMMO) successfully opened two shopping centres in the spring of 2010, and both favourably impressed the judges. Serdika Center in Sofia won the award for the best shopping centre of 2010 in the medium-sized category. Sun Plaza in Bucharest was not only distinguished as the best large shopping centre of the year, but also won the SEE Overall Project of the Year award.

Friedrich Wachernig, member of S IMMO’s Management Board: “A project’s success can be measured in terms of a number of factors – but an award from an independent panel of experts always confers a very special distinction. To know that with our projects we have not only satisfied our tenants, our visitors and our investors but have also convinced our peers in the real estate industry makes us extremely happy and proud."

Two awards for Sun Plaza in Bucharest
The Romanian shopping centre Sun Plaza was not only the clear winner in the large shopping centre category but also carried off the SEE Overall Project of the Year award. This was yet one more confirmation of the unique qualities of this development project. Sun Plaza had already won two CIJ Awards in December 2010.

Together with project partner EMCT, S IMMO has created a shopping centre of a kind wholly new to Romania, on a 200,000 m² site between two main traffic arteries. Designed by renowned English architects Chapman & Taylor, Sun Plaza is not only 99% fully let with an outstanding mix of tenants and a unique location, but also has excellent transport links. Direct access to the subway through its own passage is a unique and important distinction for Sun Plaza.

Sun Plaza’s more than 80,000 m2 of lettable space offers its visitors three types of amenities: businesses catering to daily shopping needs, a wide range of international fashion and lifestyle brands and a comprehensive selection of entertainment and leisure facilities. Special highlights are provided by the social and community facilities, including an event location, a playground and sports ground, a sports and concert hall and the new Cinema City centre.

Award for Serdika Center, Sofia
Serdika Center in Sofia won the prize in the medium-sized category. Its 51,000 m2 of lettable retail space are divided into 210 shops, let to international and local brands with an emphasis on fashion. The anchor tenants are Peek & Cloppenburg, with its first flagship store in Bulgaria, a Technopolis household and consumer electronics market, and a Piccadilly supermarket. Serdika Center was developed jointly with German shopping centre specialists ECE, and is home to a wide range of top international fashion brands such as Zara, Mango and Esprit.
