Awards and certifications

Sun Plaza received two CIJ Awards in the categories of “Best Shopping Centre Development” and “Best Overall Development” at a gala celebration at the end of 2010. In addition, it was BREEAM Europe Commercial 2009 Pass certified in 2018. The shopping centre also obtained three official world records and therefore made it into the Guinness Book of World Records - for example for the world’s largest indoor display of Christmas lights with 449,658 bulbs. Since it was opened, Sun Plaza has succeeded in establishing itself as one of the largest and most important shopping centres of Bucharest.

Sunny centre in Bucharest

S IMMO AG opened Sun Plaza, one of the largest development projects in the history of the company, at the beginning of 2010. The shopping centre has over 79,700 m² of retail space and its anchor tenants include Leroy Merlin, Cora, Cinema City, C&A, Flanco and H&M. Besides more than 170 shops, the shopping centre also has numerous cafés, a food court with 1,200 seats, a cinema with 15 auditoriums, a bowling alley, child care facilities and a sports hall.

Direct metro access

Sun Plaza is located in the south of Bucharest in the city’s fourth district, at the place where two main traffic arteries meet. In addition to direct access to the metro – a unique feature in Romania – the centre has excellent connections to the road network and to numerous forms of public transport. With nearly 2,000 parking spaces on two levels, visitors can comfortably reach the centre by car. With more than 80,000 m² of lettable space, Sun Plaza is an important local employer and taxpayer. With this shopping centre, S IMMO AG is improving the local infrastructure and supporting development of the region.

Over 40 new shops since March 2018

In the last two years, the Sun Plaza shopping centre has been modernized and expanded to accommodate new tenants. As part of expensive renovation work more than 20,000 m² of space have been redesigned and offer space for more than 40 new shops. Brands such as Intimissimi, Calzedonia, Forever 21 and Terranova can now be found at the centre, which offers more than 170 shops in total.
