The renovation work at the Sun Plaza shopping centre in Bucharest, one of the largest development projects in the history of S IMMO AG, is completed and the 20,000 m² of revamped space officially opened today. Brands such as Intimissimi, Calzedonia, Forever 21 and Terranova can now be found at the centre, which offers more than 170 shops in total.

In order to disrupt business as little as possible and offer customers a shopping experience at the same high level they are accustomed to during the revamp, the renovation was completed in multiple phases over the past two years. With an investment volume of EUR 30m, more than 40 new shops were integrated into 20,000 m² of space, existing shops were adapted and Sun Plaza was brought up to the most current standards. The renovation is the largest ever to be completed at a shopping centre in Bucharest.

“We are happy to successfully open the refurbished and fully let area of Sun Plaza. Having renowned tenants due to the extension of the shopping centre will enable us to increase the value of the property and our portfolio on a lasting basis and secure income over the long term. High-quality properties are an important cornerstone of our company’s success”, said Friedrich Wachernig, Management Board member at S IMMO AG.

These quality standards are reflected not only in the expanded offerings, but also in the outstanding design of the revamped spaces. Multimedia artist Peter Kogler, one of the most successful Austrian artists on the international scene, designed a 700 m² glass installation in the entrance to the underground station and a light installation with a height of roughly 18 metres. The light installation is the largest individual light ever constructed by the Austrian company Zumtobel and has been wowing visitors to Sun Plaza since October of last year.
