Institution Art Supermarket: S IMMO AG supports Viennese platform for contemporary art for the eleventh time
On 19 October 2017, the Vienna Art Supermarket will open its doors for the eleventh time at Mariahilfer Strasse 103, a building belonging to S IMMO AG. Over 6,000 original artworks by 90 artists from 14 different countries will be on sale here for fixed prices until 27 January 2018.
Successful partnership since 2006
As part of its CSR activities, S IMMO AG has been providing space for the Art Supermarket on the ground floor of one of its properties since 2006. Friedrich Wachernig, member of S IMMO AG’s Management Board commented: “We have supported selected social and cultural projects for many years. The Art Supermarket is a highly successful idea of bringing art and artists together with interested members of the public. Therefore, we are happy to be providing a venue for this project for the eleventh year in a row.”
From classical art of painting to performance art
As the Art Supermarket has become quite an institution over the past few years, it broke its record in 2016 with more than 35,000 visitors. It has evolved into one of the biggest events for contemporary art in Austria. Besides the classical disciplines such as art of painting, drawing or photography the Art Supermarket is presenting performance art for the very first time this year. The Viennese performance and media artist Neil Curtis combines abstract painting with performance art, which he is renowned for internationally. In his work, he mainly focuses on painting on male bodies. The outcome are colourful as well as expressive photographic works available in a limited edition.
